Technical scope

Medical ERP for orthopedic products and custom orders

Product catalog, 3D scan upload, patient records, dimension sheets, order status, comments, files, images, PDF export, and Excel export.

Before

Product orders, patient data, dimension sheets, files, and order status were difficult to connect operationally.

After

A central .NET/Angular platform connects catalog, 3D scan upload, patient records, dimension-sheet data, status management, and exports.

System context

Production platform, not a reporting demo.

The system supports orthopedic providers and customers through a connected web and tablet workflow. Users can browse a catalog of orthopedic products or upload a 3D scanned model from the iPad app to order custom products. Provider-side administrators and staff can manage orders, update status, add comments, attach files and images, and export order or patient data as PDF and Excel documents.

Engineering challenge

Orthopedic ordering combines catalog UX, clinical data, and custom manufacturing input.

The platform had to connect ecommerce-style product selection with sensitive patient documentation, custom 3D scan uploads, structured measurement sheets, provider-side processing, and exportable records.

  • Orthopedic product catalog and product-type selection
  • Custom product ordering from uploaded 3D scan models
  • Provider-side order management with status changes, comments, files, and images
  • Patient records with multiple dimension sheets and product-specific measurement forms
  • PDF and Excel exports for operational handover and documentation
System architecture

.NET API and Angular ERP connected to an iPad scan workflow.

The backend API provides business logic for orders, patients, products, files, comments, status changes, and dimension-sheet data. It acts as the central integration layer between the Angular web app, the iPad scanning workflow, and the SQL database.

  • API endpoints for patient and dimension-sheet data management
  • Product catalog and product-type handling
  • Order creation, status management, comments, files, and image attachments
  • PDF and Excel export endpoints
  • API support for uploaded 3D scan data and related order metadata
Patient data model

Structured Maßblatt data instead of one generic medical form.

Patients can have multiple dimension sheets depending on product type, clinical use case, and measurement workflow. Different sheet types require different metadata and orthopedic measurement fields.

  • Patient identity and personal metadata
  • Product type and sheet type
  • Height, weight, menarche, and Risser stage
  • Circumference, SIAS-SIPS, A-P, and related body dimensions
  • Additional sheet-specific orthopedic attributes
ERP workflows

Catalog, patient documentation and 3D scan orders in one workflow

The platform connects product ordering, patient records, dimension sheets, scan uploads, order processing and exports in one medical ERP context.

Product Catalog

Users can browse orthopedic products through a catalog and create orders from predefined product options.

  • Product and product-type selection
  • Catalog-driven order creation
  • Patient and product context in one workflow
  • Provider-side processing after order intake

3D Scan Custom Orders

For custom products, users can upload a 3D scanned model from the iPad workflow. The scan becomes part of the order context together with patient, product, sheet, files, images, and status data.

  • iPad scan upload integration
  • Custom product order flow
  • Scan files connected to patient and product records
  • Digital bridge between physical measurement work and ERP processing

Order Management and Exports

Provider-side administrators and staff can process orders, update status, attach documentation, add comments, and generate exports for operational handover.

  • Order overview and order-detail screens
  • Status updates, comments, files, and image attachments
  • PDF export for printable or shareable documentation
  • Excel export for structured review and internal processing

Impact:

Business impact

The platform connects orthopedic product selection, patient-specific measurement data, 3D scan uploads, order processing, and documentation in one controlled ERP workflow.

  • Unified workflow for catalog products and custom scanned products
  • Structured patient and dimension-sheet documentation
  • Clearer provider-side order-status management
  • Reduced manual handover between scan data, product data, and order data
  • Exportable PDF and Excel documentation for operational processing
  • Scalable foundation for different orthopedic product and sheet types
