Technical scope

Android UI/UX product portfolio for Poweramp v3

30+ Poweramp v3 skins, 10 available Play Store feature graphics, custom Android resources, Photoshop-designed UI assets, theme-builder options, ASO, Firebase analytics, AdMob, Play Billing, and a monetized standalone Android app.

Before

Poweramp users wanted deeper visual customization than the default player UI provided, but skins had to work inside a proprietary theme ecosystem without hurting playback performance.

After

A portfolio of 30+ polished Android skins and a monetized standalone app shipped with custom UI assets, configurable style options, Play Store positioning, analytics feedback loops, and free/paid monetization paths.

System context

Production platform, not a reporting demo.

The Poweramp skin portfolio was a solo product and engineering effort: UI concept, Photoshop asset production, Android resource engineering, Poweramp theme integration, store graphics, ASO, release management, analytics, and monetization were handled end to end. More than 30 skins were developed, supported by a monetized standalone Android app and 10 available Play Store feature graphics.

Product strategy

A narrow Android niche became a repeatable product system.

The portfolio targeted advanced Poweramp users who wanted a premium visual layer for an app they already used daily. The product strategy combined distinctive visual styles with reliable theme-engine behavior, so each skin could stand on its own while sharing a repeatable development and release pipeline.

  • 30+ individual skins for the same Poweramp v3 ecosystem
  • Standalone Android app with monetization and product positioning
  • Store positioning around high-intent Android customization and Poweramp skin searches
  • Hybrid monetization through free/ad-supported and paid versions
  • ASO assets, feature graphics, descriptions, and visual differentiation per skin
  • Feedback loop from downloads, ratings, and analytics into future skin updates
Android theme engineering

The work required deeper integration than ordinary app styling.

Poweramp skins depend on Android resource overrides, style inheritance, and compatibility with a proprietary host app. The implementation had to compile against the Poweramp APK, override internal attributes safely, and keep custom visuals fast enough for a real-time music player UI.

  • Android XML style system and resource override architecture
  • aapt-based linking workflow for Poweramp-specific attributes
  • Custom drawable, vector, color, layout, and style resources
  • Seekbar, waveform, visualizer, navigation, and button styling
  • Resource optimization across Android screen-density buckets
Design pipeline

Photoshop assets had to survive Android density, contrast and performance constraints.

Each skin started as a full UI direction, then moved into a production asset pipeline for Android. The design work covered feature graphics, player surfaces, controls, icon treatments, backgrounds, and state variants while keeping the interface legible inside Poweramp's existing interaction model.

  • Photoshop-led UI and marketing asset production
  • 10 available 1024x500 Play Store feature graphics from the skin portfolio
  • Raster and vector asset preparation for mdpi through xxxhdpi
  • Visual states for buttons, navigation, seekbars, and playback controls
  • Consistency between product screenshots, feature graphics, and in-app theme behavior
Product system

Design, Android theme engineering, ASO and monetization in one lifecycle

The portfolio connected visual product design with low-level Android resource work and commercial Play Store execution.

Theme Builder Options

The skins included configurable options so users could tune the interface instead of accepting one fixed visual preset.

  • skins.xml option selection for alternate UI variants
  • Transparent navigation and surface options
  • Alternative button sets and playback-control treatments
  • Divided waveform and seekbar styling choices
  • Composable Android style inheritance for stacked visual options

Store Growth and ASO

The portfolio was packaged as a set of discoverable Android products with strong visual differentiation in Google Play search and listing surfaces.

  • Play Store descriptions, titles, visual assets, and feature graphics per skin
  • High-intent keyword targeting around Poweramp v3 skins and Android UI customization
  • Free, premium, and standalone-app positioning across the product portfolio
  • Conversion-oriented screenshots and listing artwork
  • Analytics-informed updates based on usage and preference signals

Monetization and Lifecycle

The technical work extended beyond first release. Each app needed store maintenance, compatibility updates, analytics, monetization handling, and ongoing quality control as Android and Poweramp evolved.

  • AdMob integration for free versions and the standalone app
  • Google Play Billing for paid, premium, and standalone-app releases
  • Firebase Analytics and Firestore-supported preference tracking
  • Compatibility maintenance across Android versions and Poweramp builds
  • Release packaging, listing updates, and support for a global user base
